Unit 15 Report
Eminem Survival
This song was a promotional music video that was done with the release of Call of Duty Ghost
In the opening of this song we here the non digetic sound of the beat and the music video shows a figure walking down an ally and the end of the ally the hooded figure walks through some smoke this is a refrence to the game as smoke grenade are in the game we start to here digetic sounds as we hear the lyrics at this point the camera shows a quick scene of drums being played and we start to hear them this make them a digetic sound the camera the returns back to the hooded figure who has painted the logo of the game that is being promoted. The hooded figure is then revealed to be Eminem and he starts to rap while he is rapping game play footage is being shown on the wall behind him.
In the intro there no graphics but many transitions for example Eminem is being shown then the camera switch to showing a light and then a road. The editing in this is really rough as that how the music video is panned out there a lots of bass drops which shake the screen giving that military esc vibe like a grenade has exploded.
Immortal 21 savage Mortal Kombat 11
Promotional video for Mortal Kombat 11 and 21 savage’s song ‘Immortal’
At the start of the video there is lots of graphics for example one of the characters has lightning that surrounds them. The Music starts after one of the characters is tackled into a pillar a camera transition happens here as the camera switches from the pillar to one of the characters feet the character gets back up and fight scene happens will lots of graphical edits and lots camera transitions also the non-diegetic sounds is the song its self as no one actually sings it in the video the examples of MES are how there is a ruined temple at where the main fight scene happens we can see that one of the pillars of the temple is targeted when the character gets tackled into the pillar and when he gets killed there later on in the fight there are no lights only the moon light which cascades the sky and leaves a showdown of many other temples and mountains that are nearby. The costumes that are worn in the music video show they are some sort of samurai demons or (Not of this Earth). The camera transitions are really advanced you can see this as when the fight is happening it feels like you are there watching it happen and when one of the characters gets knocked down the camera switches ton his face really smoothly.
In comparison the Mortal Kombat 11 promo video had a lot more graphics as the whole music video was graphically animated whereas in the survival music video there was little graphical animation these two promos are good for the target audience as both these promos hook you.
The call of duty ghost promo featured Eminem as way of promoting and marketing their product as in the time this product was made many people looked up to Eminem or were huge fans of his, this made their product exponentially more known as a huge video game series, had partnered up with one of the biggest rappers at that time, this got many people to know the game. Because of this partnership. Target audience had changed as it was just 18+ males who usually bought this game series, it was most people who listened to rap which changed the target demographic of the game as many people looked up to Eminem and this partnership got Activision more sales. The promo was distributed through social media so it was easily accessible by millions, just by a quick search. This way of promotion appealed to many of the target audience as the actual promo video itself had lots of physical edits and amazing camera shots and transitions which appealed to the audience. In comparison NetherRealm Studios had a collaboration with the rapper called 21 savage to promote his new song and to promote their new game, they did this because promoting the game with his sing would bring in a new audience, this genre of this promo is gore and action as this is a action fighting game that contains a lot of gore. This Mortal Kombat 11 promo video was marketed on social media this got millions of people to see the video, The entire video is CGI and includes lots of graphical edits
Fallout 76
Promotional trailer
The intro of this trailer includes MES and non-diegetic sounds the MES is shown when we see west Virginia state getting nuked and the road sign the armoured man walks next, the example of a non-diegetic sound would be the nuke alarms going off as we as the audience can’t actually see them. The graphical editing at the start is just a black and white picture but after we see the armoured man lay to waste colours is brought back to the trailer and we start to hear the non-diegetic song which is ‘take me home’ by John Denver there is also evidence of diegetic sounds as we a turned on TV with man giving news.
The transition between when the armoured man dies and when the commercial is one of those 20 centuries please wait signs there is also a lot of camera movement. After the transition the is a lot of MES for example there many toys around indicating children live there so that suggest that there was a family living and when the camera transition to a new shot we see balloons as if a community was celebrating. The camera moves to a different scene from the vault it goes out to the wilderness and the song ‘take me home’ start to play making a non-diegetic sound.
Dead by daylight
Promotional trailer
The production team that created this game is called ‘Behaviour interactive’ The video game being promoted is called dead by daylight and it was released on June 14th 2016. The genre of the promotional video is horror and gore this is because the game is a team-based horror game the target audience of this game are 18+ males that are fans of horror. This promotional trailer was shown on YouTube and other social medias. At the start of the trailer we see a doorway covered in a thick fog we also hear non-diegetic sounds these sounds are a mix of high-pitched screeches and low-pitched hums, after about 20 seconds we see a character running we hear some more non-diegetic sounds as well as some diegetic sounds. The non-diegetic sounds we hear are high paced violin sounds we can hear her footsteps and her panting which are the diegetic sounds. At the end of this trailer we see the character hiding a locker we only hear her rapid breathing but after she is found by the killer a high pithed noise is heard and this noise is non-diegetic.
This entire trailer is graphical as it is CGI there is a title screen but this is at the end of the trailer. This trailer appeals to fans off horror and also thriller as this game trailer gives you an adrenalin boost.
The comparison between the Fallout 76 trailer and Dead by daylight trailer.
In the intro for Dead by daylight there is MES and non-diegetic sounds that is the same for Fallout 76. In fallout 76 when the song ‘Take me home’ by John Denver is played whereas in the trailer for Dead by daylight there is no song but a beat with lots of high-pitched screeches which are thrilling. In both trailers there is diegetic sounds for example in the Fallout 76 trailer there is the man on TV on the other hand the diegetic noise we hear are footsteps and heavy breathing and this alone is a big difference as if you heard both trailer and didn’t see the video you would know that the Dead by daylight trailer would be horror because of these sounds.
